Acoustic OpenStage

On the second Sunday of each month (unless otherwise noted), between 2 and 4 P.M., Minnesota Guitar Society members and friends, young and old, are invited to bring their guitars to Acoustic OpenStage.

Acoustic OpenStage is your chance to perform for peers in the relaxed, informal setting of Amore Coffee in West St Paul.

  • There’s a simple sign-up sheet for performers, who each get 8 to 10 minutes (two to four songs). Please don’t extend your performance time beyond these parameters (see next point).

  • Once everyone has played who wants to, we'll do a second round, if there's time.

  • Folks usually hang out after playing to swap tips, share music, and just socialize with other guitar nerds.

  • Please plan to buy a tasty drink or snack to show a little love for the venue.

  • Check here for updates when needed.

If you’d like monthly e-mail reminders and notices of Acoustic OpenStage events, please send us an email (mgdir@mnguitar.org) requesting to be added to the Acoustic OpenStage mailing list.

For those of you who may be friends of the MGS but are not current members, we encourage you to consider joining. Basic memberships start at $25 a year, or $15 for students. Memberships are the strongest source of support we have, making all our programming possible, including OpenStage. Thank you!

Background

Begun in 2002 at the initiative of an MGS member, the late Dennis Burns, Acoustic OpenStage provides a fun, supportive, and informal way for guitarists of every level to experience the joy of playing in public. We focus primarily on acoustic finger-style, and classical guitar, and maintain a format similar to many other open mic events.
